Strengthening International Collaboration for Novel Biomarker Discovery Using NK Cell–Derived Exosomes
BioPhenoMA Inc. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Taiwan Exosome Co. Ltd., (Taiwan) and Waseda University to promote international collaboration in the discovery of novel biomarkers using exosomes. This partnership aims to advance diagnostic technologies based on immune cell–derived exosomes and strengthen research networks between Japan and Taiwan.
Exosomes are nanosized vesicles secreted by cells and contain diverse biomolecules such as proteins and RNA. Due to their biological relevance, exosomes have attracted increasing attention across oncology, immunology, and inflammatory disease research. In particular, exosomes derived from natural killer (NK) cells are considered promising indicators that reflect changes in immune activity, offering potential utility in monitoring therapeutic responses and disease conditions.
※ NK cells: Lymphocytes that patrol the body and attack cancer cells or virus-infected cells.
Taiwan Exosome Co. Ltd., specializes in the isolation and characterization of immune cell–derived exosomes, while Waseda University provides a strong foundation in life science research. BioPhenoMA conducts biomarker research including exosome analysis. Through this collaboration, the three parties aim to deepen the understanding of NK cell–derived exosome characteristics and establish a foundation for future diagnostic technology development.
Under the MOU, the partners will engage in joint efforts such as advancing exosome isolation and analytical technologies, identifying molecules that reflect immune status, and investigating exosome dynamics in disease models. These activities are expected to contribute to the creation of new biomarkers in the fields of immunotherapy and inflammatory diseases, further strengthening international research collaboration.
